Good News and Bad News

Amelie had her eye exam on Tuesday.  It was the follow-up after her 5 weeks of ALL-DAY patching.  It was a hard 5 weeks.  She's going past a year now of this patching thing and frankly she's tired of it, and so am I.  Both Rick and I kept reminding her that if she did a good job wearing her patch all day every day, then at her next appointment she might not have to wear it anymore, or maybe only a little bit.  And even though she did her fair share of complaining, she did it, and I give her props for it.  It was a hard thing to ask of a 5 year old girl.  She wants so badly to be done with it, she even prayed at night and at meal times that her eye would get better so she wouldn't have to patch anymore.

The good news is, her eye DID get significantly better!  She went from 20/100 vision 5 weeks ago to 20/50.  We haven't seen ANY improvement in so long, so we were happy to hear that her efforts had paid off.  The bad news is, the doctor pretty much said "Well, the all-day patching is definitely working, so keep on doing it."  What?  That's not what either of us were expecting to hear.  At our last visit, the doctor made it sound like it was not medically safe for her to wear her patch all day for more than 5 weeks.  It could start causing problems with her good eye to be patched all the time.  Apparently we were mistaken.  The Doctor said the goal is to get her eyes to 20/20 vision, and then reduce patching to a few hours a day to maintain it, until she feels it's ok to stop all together.  So...we were kind of bummed, but still happy that it is working.  So she will continue patching all day until her next appointment in 7 weeks.

After her appointment we went on a mommy-daughter date to see the movie Brave.  It was cute, she loved it, and we enjoyed being together.

Side note:  Summer time with 4 children at home ALL the time has taken its toll on my nerves and body.  So the other morning I decided to try de-stressing myself by doing some yoga.  As you can see, Soleil didn't want to leave me alone, still wanted to be the center of attention I guess.  She was pretty much crawling all over me most of the time, at one point sitting on my back and bouncing up and down while I was trying to do the Cobra pose.  And what you can't see is Sawyer on the couch playing with some type of weapon and being rowdy and...you know...just doing what he does best.  Kind of killed the whole idea of relaxing you know? So I gave up.

To sum it up

To sum up the last 9 months... We went to Disney World and Universal in March with Rick’s family. It was a BLAST! Favorite part was Harry Potter world. Favorite ride was Rockin’ Roller coaster, or Hogwarts castle, or the Avatar ride.  Rick and I coached track March-May. It was fun but stressful. I like doing something for the community. I don’t like running a program w my husband and not enough adult help.   Kids finished school in May and we went on a camping trip Memorial weekend to St Joe State Park with our favorite people, Richardsons. Some other ward families came too. Marcellino’s and Smith’s.  Summer hit, Soleil got baptized, and Rick got a job offer to work for Cricut in Utah. Finally a job closer to family! We spent three very stressful weeks prepping our house for sale and then took off to Utah driving both our cars on July 13th.  The following week we vacationed in Lake Powell with my family. After coming home from that we settled into Heather’s basement ...

2019 is my year to Be Prepared

Last year I decided to make a goal that involved one phrase, no guilt. That phrase stuck in my mind all year long, and guided me through a lot of situations. I found by the end of the year, that I really had changed because of those two words. In all the years past that I have set goals, I have set very specific reachable things. I always find that a few months into the year my motivation drops off and I don’t follow through with the goal. By the end of the year I either feel disappointed in myself, or I can’t even remember what my goal was to begin with. Last year was different in a very good way. So I’ve decided to do the same thing this year. After pondering and praying about what my goal should be this year, I came up with the phrase be prepared. There are so many ways to be prepared in life, spiritually, physically, temporarily, etc. I find that a lot of my stress on a daily basis could be remedied if I had only spent a little time before hand to prepare for that moment for that s...

Golf date

We went on a group date Friday night with our best friends here in St Louis, Wilson’s and Richardson’s. We went to a new place in Chesterfield called Top Golf. We ate yummy food and visited while we hit golf balls off a platform. It was the first time I had ever hit golf balls in a real way, aside from miniature golf. It was harder than it looks. Everyone had fun and I came home sore.
