A Chain of Unfortunate Events

I feel like I have so much to update and don't know where to begin. So I guess I'll start with whatever comes to mind.

Finally did a full grocery run tonight. Feels SOOO good that we have real food to eat now. We've been living off fast food and Nutella sandwiches for the past several days and it's getting old.

Our cars arrived yesterday. We were happy to see them. It was familiar, like a little bit of home came with us.

We decided to skip church yesterday. We were just too tired to go and felt like we needed an extra day to catch up. Plus with Rick starting work Monday, I knew Sunday would be my last day to have him help me get our apartment put together so I wouldn't go crazy this next week with the kids. (He has learned that my mood sets the tone of the home so he was very willing to help me with that, thankfully.) So we headed to Rick's favorite store, Costco, and bought a rug, a couch, and a TV. Yeah, it was a big trip. We sold a few things before we left (a couch, our dining table, our recliner, and the kids TV and stand) so we planned to replace them once we got here and we just couldn't find anything worth getting on Craigslist. It was quite tricky getting the couch home. It's a modular sectional with a lot of pieces so it came in 3 big boxes. Before we returned our rental van, we drove it to Costco with the Odyssey and loaded them up with 2 of the boxes. The back hatch wouldn't shut on our van so I had to follow Rick all the way home like this.
I was so nervous about it, but what else could we do? Luckily we made it home alright and then Rick drove back to get the 3rd box. It was a big pain in the neck but now our living room looks like this and I am very happy. :)
Now for the chain of unfortunate events. Yesterday after we got our cars, Rick was so excited to have his back that he went and locked it in the parking garage that we are renting, good and locked. No one could get in, not even him (he accidentally forgot the garage door opener inside his car).  We called the landlord and she said they couldn't come out til 9am Monday morning, which is after he has to be to work, so he had to call his friend (Matt Conran, the one who he knew in B-school that also is working for Nestle Purina) for a ride to work this Monday morning. Then, this morning we woke up to Matt's phone call telling us he was is and waiting for Rick. Uh-oh. Rick jumped out of bed to investigate what happened to his phone alarm only to discover his phone had died in the night. Dang it! Not wanting him to be flustered, I told him not to worry I would just drive him to work. So I prepared sippy cups of milk for the kids with cups of cereal, woke them up and carried them out to the van crying, only to find out just as we are pulling away that the front right tire is flat, completely flat, like dead, like falling off the rim dead. What the...&@$#?!
We checked for a spare, no spare :(. So Rick had to call a taxi to take him to work on his first day.  A $50 unfortunate event. Meanwhile he helps me call AAA to come tow the car but then the taxi comes and he passes me the phone and I accidentally hang up on them. Ugh!  So I say goodbye to him, unload the kids and get them inside. Then I proceed to make a million phone calls about where to tow the car to and how much to fix the tire. Turns out the warranty we purchased with our tires a year ago is still good, only problem is the company we bought them from doesn't have a location in Missouri. Dang it! So I find a close mechanic shop that will try to repair it and I call AAA back to let them know where to take it. Come to find out, they now refuse me service because apparently the AAA membership is only in Rick's name and he is no longer with the vehicle!  Blippity blip!  I hung up on those dumb people. Luckily our car insurance policy DOES include towing so they did it for me with no problems. Thank you Geico. :).
Then later I got a call from the auto mechanic letting me know the tire is irrepairable (of course, why would anything go right?) so I will have to order a new one and won't have my car back for about 5 days. Wonderful.

Oh, and both our toilets clogged last night within hours of each other, so I made an emergency run to walmart for a plunger, only to find out one of the toilets had overflowed while I was gone and seeped under the wall to the carpet on the other side. Great.

Rick and I have both decided we probably shouldn't skip church and break the Sabbath again. Oh the blessings that come our way from doing what's right and we don't even know it.

Well now it's 12:24 am, my grocery shopping is done, my blog post will have to do, and I am headed to bed. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Oh and on a funny note. Tonight Soleil came to me and said "Mom, I need a wand."  To which I replied, "Well, we don't have a wand, but I do have a plastic spoon you can use for a wand." That was satisfactory to her so she went on her way playing. A few minutes later she came back to me boasting that she killed Sawyer with her wand. Me: "What? Wands are supposed to do nice things, not kill people."  Her: "It's a razor wand."  Hmmm...ok.  I guess she doesn't have to be all sugar and spice and everything nice.

To sum it up

To sum up the last 9 months... We went to Disney World and Universal in March with Rick’s family. It was a BLAST! Favorite part was Harry Potter world. Favorite ride was Rockin’ Roller coaster, or Hogwarts castle, or the Avatar ride.  Rick and I coached track March-May. It was fun but stressful. I like doing something for the community. I don’t like running a program w my husband and not enough adult help.   Kids finished school in May and we went on a camping trip Memorial weekend to St Joe State Park with our favorite people, Richardsons. Some other ward families came too. Marcellino’s and Smith’s.  Summer hit, Soleil got baptized, and Rick got a job offer to work for Cricut in Utah. Finally a job closer to family! We spent three very stressful weeks prepping our house for sale and then took off to Utah driving both our cars on July 13th.  The following week we vacationed in Lake Powell with my family. After coming home from that we settled into Heather’s basement ...

2019 is my year to Be Prepared

Last year I decided to make a goal that involved one phrase, no guilt. That phrase stuck in my mind all year long, and guided me through a lot of situations. I found by the end of the year, that I really had changed because of those two words. In all the years past that I have set goals, I have set very specific reachable things. I always find that a few months into the year my motivation drops off and I don’t follow through with the goal. By the end of the year I either feel disappointed in myself, or I can’t even remember what my goal was to begin with. Last year was different in a very good way. So I’ve decided to do the same thing this year. After pondering and praying about what my goal should be this year, I came up with the phrase be prepared. There are so many ways to be prepared in life, spiritually, physically, temporarily, etc. I find that a lot of my stress on a daily basis could be remedied if I had only spent a little time before hand to prepare for that moment for that s...

Golf date

We went on a group date Friday night with our best friends here in St Louis, Wilson’s and Richardson’s. We went to a new place in Chesterfield called Top Golf. We ate yummy food and visited while we hit golf balls off a platform. It was the first time I had ever hit golf balls in a real way, aside from miniature golf. It was harder than it looks. Everyone had fun and I came home sore.
