Moab Trip #2

8 years ago, we took a trip to Moab in a rented RV with Karl and Virginia.  Chase and Amelie were 5 and 3 and Sawyer was about 6 months old.  They loved it, but don't have a lot of memories of it.  Since it was such a big hit, Karl and Virginia decided to provide that experience again for our family!

They rented an RV from a couple who lives in American Fork.  We picked the RV up on Monday, June 11th, and learned how it worked.

Tuesday we packed it up and left for Moab.  The kids enjoyed riding on the bunk beds and eating snacks at the table while grandpa drove.  I worked on my crocheting and read a book in the bed.  It was a wonderful way to travel!  We pulled into our campsite at Portal RV Resort just before dark and set up camp and enjoyed falling asleep to the movie A Wrinkle in Time.

Wednesday we enjoyed a lazy morning of sleeping in.  Then we packed up the trailer and headed out to Arches National Park.  The weather was hot so we kept to some shorter easier hikes, Double Arch and Sand Dune Arch.  The sand was so fine and soft, the rocks were so large and red, and the arches were so amazing.  The kids loved climbing everything they could see.  It was a great first day.

Thursday we woke up early, around 6am, and got ready pretty quickly.  We wanted to hike Delicate Arch in the cooler morning hours before the hot sun came out.  It was a longer more difficult hike, and Amelie wasn't feeling well, so she stayed in the RV with Grandma and Grandpa while the rest of us did the hike.  It took us about 2 hours round trip.  Again, the kids enjoyed climbing every wall they could see, and when we finally arrived at Delicate Arch the view was spectacular!  We also lucked out on the weather because it really didn't get too hot, there was a nice breeze, and it even sprinkled a bit of rain.  Once we got back to the trailer we enjoyed the AC and ate lunch together.  Next we headed to Skyline Arch.  The girls and I stayed in the RV and enjoyed relaxing while the boys and grandparents hiked.  When they came back,  I heard more wonderful stories of climbing rocks and having a grand time.  Next we headed to Canyonlands.  We started in the visitor center where the kids each picked out a souvenir, and then took in the expansive views of the canyons and Dead Horse Point.  At dusk we made one last pit stop at the Mesa Arch trail.  We hiked the trail, saw the arch, took some pictures, and got caught in the dark on our way back.  It was a little scary but we made it.  Thursday ended with a late night drive back to the campsite and several grumpy campers.

Friday was another sleep in morning, and then off to enjoy more of Canyonlands and climbing.  After stopping at the visitor center, we learned of a great climbing spot for kids called Whale Rock, so of course that's directly where we headed.  It turned out to be an amazing climb with more spectacular views!

Saturday morning we woke up early again to pack up camp and head home.  We stopped to admire the petroglyphs on our way out of town and then headed to Goblin Valley.  We were worried about the hot weather but again we got lucky with an overcast sky and a heavy wind.  The kids had a blast climbing the "goblins" and we all played hide-and-go-seek together.

We pulled in at home late Saturday night and quickly emptied the trailer, made a QUICK run to Harmons for Fathers Day and birthday stuff, before hopping into bed.  We had a blast on our trip and made some more great memories.

Just a little weekend get-a-way...

in P U E R T O R I C O !!! So Rick (along with his other teammates) received a reward trip from work to vacation in Puerto Rico for 4 days! Since I constitute his other half I got to cash in on the reward. I'm Tired

This is the theme of today. (And this picture describes perfectly how I feel.) Not only is Sawyer still waking up ever couple hours in the night, but Chase had the stomach flu last night and was throwing up big time. I know I got up with him at least 3 separate times when he had to puke. I know what you're thinking, where is Rick? Well, he hurt his back a few days ago and hasn't been able to get around very well, let alone bend over a puking child, so he wasn't able to help. I seriously felt like I was going between nursing baby and puking child all night long. And then Rick wakes up at 5:30 to get ready for school just after I got the baby to sleep and wakes him up! Ahhh! I didn't know whether to scream or just start crying. So he takes Sawyer upstairs and puts him in the swing (which always puts him out) and then Chase comes and crawls in bed with me and then Amelie wakes up because she can hear movement in the house and is upset that Chase isn't in his be...

Chase said the funniest thing...

Chase just said the funniest thing, so I had to write it down somewhere. He's watching an old Looney Tunes DVD that we checked out from the library. You know, the classic Bugs Bunny, and Tweety Bird and stuff. Anyway, there's a part on there where this bad guy is trying to kill Bugs Bunny and he keeps saying "shut up". Rick and I picked up on this and looked at each other, not sure whether to turn it off or let it go. So Rick decides to do the following. He says, "Hey Chase, I don't like this movie. They're saying bad things. How about we watch a different one. Like Transformers (the cartoon version)." Chase's response: "Daddy, how about you go work in your car if you don't like this movie so I can stay in here and watch it." Hahahaha! I'm cracking up. Rick and I looked at each other and figured that was a pretty good answer.
