Out with Soleil

Soleil cracks me up sometimes. Today she was shopping with me and really really wanted something. I initially said no but then changed my mind and bought it for her. She was ecstatic and kept telling me how I am the best mom ever and she loves me so much. Then we went through the drive thru line at Steak N Shake and I got her a meal and shake. She was so happy because I rarely buy "extras" with fast food and she said "I'm so happy! You got two things that are my favorite!   I've always been wanting a mom like this. And a mom like this finally came! And it's you."   These moments won't last forever.

From the mouth of Soleil

Soleil says really funny things sometimes. The other day Soleil asked me for something and I told her no.  Her reply to me was, "Mom, would you like it if you asked me for something and I said no?  Huh?  That's how I feel when you say that to me."  hahahah!  Well played Soleil.  She is one smart cookie.  At least I know she's starting to understand the idea of thinking outside her own feelings. Today in Sunbeams (I'm her sunbeam teacher) she and another girl were going head-to-head about wanting the same game piece.  Soleil finally attempted to calm the situation down by saying, "Hannah, Hannah, Hannah, slooow it dooooowwwn."  It was hilarious because I could totally hear myself saying that to her. Then after church, we pulled into the garage around 5:30 and it was getting dark (we have late church and we had meetings after) and I proceeded to unbuckle her from her seat.  She says with a sigh, "Ughhh, not this again."  I was c...

Remember your manners

I told Soleil to be polite and remember her manners when she went to be babysat at a friends house. Then it dawned on me that she may not understand what "remember your manners" means. So I asked her "do you know what it means to remember your manners?" She replied confidently "yep!" Me, "so what does it mean?"  Her, "To not toot."  I busted up laughing. Not exactly what I meant but that definitely is good manners to not toot.

Soleil-isms and a few from the mouth of Sawyer

Mom I have a stummy ache.  Mom it was an askident (accident).  Mom can I put on my swim soup? Mom I have a tummy ache on my knee from drinking all that soda  (pointing to her thigh).  While driving in the car I paused the kids' movie to say "I love you". Sawyer replies quickly "me too now can you turn the movie back on!"  Embarrassing moment.  In a public restroom stall with my toddler and she asks loudly "Mommy you got a rash?"  Which I didnt and had no idea what she was referring to but no one else that overheard knew that.   Sawyer shouts in the store suddenly, "I gotta go to the bathroom. I need to poop, I'm trying really hard to hold it in." TMI Sawyer, TMI.  In the store, Soleil shouts suddenly "mom I need to go the the bathroom!" and she grabs her crotch and announces "I just peed a little bit mom that's all."  TMI Soleil, TMI.

In Soleil's words

Soleil is an excellent talker, but she's still two.  Here is some of her current vocabulary and I just love it. Gloves = glubs Swimsuit = swim soup and my personal favorite…Bellybutton = belly butt

The tutu

Soleil is funny.  Somewhere deep inside her was planted that stereotypical gene that makes a girl obsessed with clothes and shoes and accessories.  She's only 2 1/2 but she is completely entertained with clothing and shoes and accessories and would probably prefer them to toys. When she gets bored she says, "Mom, can I go change my clothes?"  It's like the first thing that comes to her mind when she thinks of something fun to do.  When I walk past the shoe department or little girls clothing department at the store, I have to move quick because as soon as her eye catches it she's all questions, "Mom, can I get out! Mom can I try those on! Mom pleeeeeze!" And then she cries or throws a fit if I say no.   Yesterday at Target I stopped at the shoe section and let her try some on.  She was in heaven!     It was like Christmas morning, seriously.  She was so happy and giddy, she was dancing and twirling and singing down the aisle in her shoes, lik...

I will miss this

As much as I hate potty training, someday I'm going to miss the cuteness of a little tiny person sitting on a huge toilet looking at a book to pass the time. I probably won't miss wiping bums in the middle of dinner though.

I need to spin

One of the cutest things I've heard Soleil say... She's been dressing and undressing like crazy lately. She's taking full advantage of her newfound ability to dress herself and I can't keep clothes on her. One of her favorite things to do is to put on dresses of all kinds: her dresses, Amelie's dresses, princess dresses, whatever is nearby. There's something about a dress that just feels wonderful to her. She loves how they flow around her and most of all she loves to spin around and watch her dress fly out. The other day she asked me (she actually asked) if she could put her princess dress on. I said "no" because was tired of her changing so much. She looked at me, cocked her head to the side, and with a desperate look on her face cried, "But Mom! I NEEEEED to spin! I NEEEED to spin!"  My heart melted. How could I say no to a little girl who just neeeeeds to spin? So she got to spin, and spin, and spin, and spin. And I got a warm feeling in ...

Inspiration

This inspired an idea...now I have a costume brewing for this one, but I'm gonna have to make it. Stay tuned! And here is Clark Kent, at your service. Sawyer broke his glasses again, for the third time in 2 months, so here's the new frames.  We'll see how long they last!

It's Official!!!

(Written 10/3/13) 9 months later and $575 down this girl is officially (and finally) named. Got the proof in the mail today! And this was her today on the way out the door. The kids sometimes ask to bring small toys with them in the car when we go somewhere. So we're rushing out the door and I hear the sweetest little voice behind me asking as nicely as possible, "Mom? Can I pwease bwing dis???" Nice try.  And finally...the most perfect way to end a hard day. I just love baths.

Moooom! Come and find meeee!

Sawyer and Soleil have been really into hide-and-seek lately. They hide in the most obvious places and then yell "Moooom! Come and find meeeee!" Today at Walmart I hear Soleil yell this so I turn around to see this.  Haha! Surprised me that she even fit under there.  I wish I would have taken a picture of her peeking out as proof that she really was under there!

Happy 2nd Birthday my little Soleil Caroline

On June 6, 2011 you were welcomed into the world with lots of love! How would we ever have known that a 7 lb 15 oz little person would be this much trouble and this much fun?! I can hardly believe that it has been 2 whole years since we welcomed this little girl to our family.  She has managed to grab the heart of both her mommy and daddy, as well as all 3 of her siblings over these past 2 years.  Although she knows how to push everyone's buttons, and she is really good at testing boundaries, we all adore her and can't imagine our family without her.  She says the cutest things, does the funniest things, pretends to be grown up like everyone around her, and brings us lots of smiles and laughs.  She was definitely born with a mind of her own, a strong desire to make her own choices and not be swayed by anyone.  This is partly why she seems so unfriendly at times when people try to hold her or talk to her. ...

Catch up

I have gotten really behind on the blog this past month. Here is a quick catch up working backwards. 1- Chase and Amelie wanted to have a little garage sale with their toys. The bad news is, they didn't sell one thing :(. The good news is we learned what to do different next week. 2- Sawyer is so goofy. He took these funny pictures of himself on my phone all by himself. 3- Amelie and I at Mother-Daughter homemaking night. We did crafts together and ate yummy food! 4- Chase lost his second tooth! He was so excited. Pulled it out at school, said it bled all over and it was so cool. Boys! 5- My Mothers Day present. Ain't it cute!? I know a toaster isn't exactly the best Mothers Day gift but I'd been wanting this for a while. Now I can make my toast in style! 6- Took the kids to Magic Mtn for the afternoon. It was so fun! Love that we are so close to it. We went after lunch and came home for dinner! Way better than Disneyland for that factor. 7- Soleil just ...

How do you spell Soleil?

T-R-O-U-B-L-E Found her at it again.  None of my other kids had this problem?  Luckily it wasn't permanent this time. Then I find her walking around the house with several hair elastics on her arm and fingers (small ones I might add, that she stretched to get on).  Her purple hand wasn't liking it so much, but she seemed oblivious.  Luckily I caught her before it fell off.

Funny pics from the week

Pic 1- Sawyer said "Mom, take a picture of me doing this." Pic 2- Soleil decided to try tasting the flour and yeast mixture I was using to make pizza dough, despite my warnings not to. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way. Pic 3- Rick happened upon Soleil having her first experience putting on makeup...all by herself...well lipstick as makeup Pic 4- I don't have this picture but wish I would have taken one of the tiger stripes Soleil drew all over both arms yesterday with a black permanent marker, oh and on the side of her face and her shirt. You can see the remains of the table as evidence.
