ER trip for Sawyer

We took a trip to the ER tonight to get stitches in Sawyer’s eyebrow. He was twirling he says and ran into the corner of the wall. It happened around 6:30pm and I was sleeping and Rick was gone visiting ward members for Elders Quorum. He woke me up from a dead sleep wailing with blood running down his face. When I saw the wound I knew it was stitches worthy. Luckily Rick felt inspired to cut his visits short and come home early, so he walked through the door a few minutes later. Together we took him to Mercy Children’s ER. Amelie came with us because he wanted her to. It was so sweet how she was trying to help him feel better in the back seat in the way there. They really have a special bond. He ended up getting 7 stitches from Dr. Ranke. The numbing medicine didn’t seem to work all the way and he kept squirming and breathing deep from the pain. He was so tough. It’s the second set of stitches he has had, both in his right eyebrow.  He says he has learned his lesson not to twirl an...

Not again

Will someone tell this boy to slow down?   Literally dove for a ball on the hardwood floor. Glasses got him. The good news is he'll have matching scars on both eyebrows.

The Snake Family

The creativity of children amazes me. Sawyer came upstairs to find me and said "mom you GOTTA come see the snake family I made". So I came to see his playdough creation. He explained it's a family of 10 kids, but the white one is adopted. And they have no parents because the dad died in the snake war and the mom died from surgery. Intense story for a little playdough snake family. Live on little snakes!

First day of preschool

He was very happy this morning. He reminded me before I got out of bed that today was his first day of preschool, he got dressed all by himself without me asking, and wore his new Batman backpack around all morning. He told me last night that he was a little nervous because he wouldn't know what to do there. I gave him one rule to follow for the day to ensure a happy first day of school, smile. Simple as that!  I said "If you smile your teacher will love you and the other kids will want to be your friend." So that was his goal for today, just smile! He was so cute. T-ball

(Written previously but didn't post for some reason) Sawyer finished his very first sport season, t-ball. I'll admit it was kind of torturous to watch and I'm not sure he learned anything, but it was all worth it to see his face light up after his last game when he suddenly learned that he would be getting his very first trophy! He was SO excited and couldn't wait to hold it in his hands.

Soleil-isms and a few from the mouth of Sawyer

Mom I have a stummy ache.  Mom it was an askident (accident).  Mom can I put on my swim soup? Mom I have a tummy ache on my knee from drinking all that soda  (pointing to her thigh).  While driving in the car I paused the kids' movie to say "I love you". Sawyer replies quickly "me too now can you turn the movie back on!"  Embarrassing moment.  In a public restroom stall with my toddler and she asks loudly "Mommy you got a rash?"  Which I didnt and had no idea what she was referring to but no one else that overheard knew that.   Sawyer shouts in the store suddenly, "I gotta go to the bathroom. I need to poop, I'm trying really hard to hold it in." TMI Sawyer, TMI.  In the store, Soleil shouts suddenly "mom I need to go the the bathroom!" and she grabs her crotch and announces "I just peed a little bit mom that's all."  TMI Soleil, TMI.

The big 4

(For some reason this never posted when I did it. So here it is late.) Haven't had time to post about Sawyer's birthday. It was a lovely day.  One day I turned on Rick's old original Nintendo and showed Sawyer how to play Mario Brothers. He's hooked. So it was a Mario Bday.  Silly string fight before breakfast  Favorite cereal  37 lbs strong and 41" big Everyone had a designated color of the day Favorite lunch. Peanut butter sandwich, peanut butter on celery. Yep, he's a peanut butter kinda guy.  He wanted ice cream cones instead of cake Awesome bday gift from Grandma and Grandpa And a sweet bike from mom and dad! And i forgot to take a pic of our Toys R Us trip where he got his rad transformers with Nana's and Papa's money, and our stop at McDonalds for dinner, but it was a hit. Oh and he got to stay up and watch movie with dad while the other kids went to bed. He was so excited about that. I don't think he lasted more than 10 minutes before his li...

Inspiration

This inspired an idea...now I have a costume brewing for this one, but I'm gonna have to make it. Stay tuned! And here is Clark Kent, at your service. Sawyer broke his glasses again, for the third time in 2 months, so here's the new frames.  We'll see how long they last!

From the mouth of babes

I love the way kids describe things. Almost every day my kids say something funny or something that makes me think differently. Just a few I remember today... After Sawyer got off the toilet he said "the back of my leg hurts. It's like my muscle went away and it's sparkling."  Sawyer very matter of fact, "Sometimes I like the things I don't like and sometimes I don't like the things I do like (sigh)" And he looks at me with these eyes like "you get it right mom? That makes perfect sense to you right?" Sawyer was trying to tell Rick something that happened a few weeks ago but he didn't have the vocabulary so he said "the other day and  the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and the other day and..." seriously said it forever.  Oh there were several more, one from Amelie but I forgot them now. I should write the...

Catch up

I have gotten really behind on the blog this past month. Here is a quick catch up working backwards. 1- Chase and Amelie wanted to have a little garage sale with their toys. The bad news is, they didn't sell one thing :(. The good news is we learned what to do different next week. 2- Sawyer is so goofy. He took these funny pictures of himself on my phone all by himself. 3- Amelie and I at Mother-Daughter homemaking night. We did crafts together and ate yummy food! 4- Chase lost his second tooth! He was so excited. Pulled it out at school, said it bled all over and it was so cool. Boys! 5- My Mothers Day present. Ain't it cute!? I know a toaster isn't exactly the best Mothers Day gift but I'd been wanting this for a while. Now I can make my toast in style! 6- Took the kids to Magic Mtn for the afternoon. It was so fun! Love that we are so close to it. We went after lunch and came home for dinner! Way better than Disneyland for that factor. 7- Soleil just ...

Looks like a haircut is in order

So today was an especially hard sacrament meeting.  Soleil wouldn't sit still for more than 10 seconds at  a time.  As soon as she got situated on my lap, she wanted down, and then she wanted up, and then back down again.  She was just very busy and all over the place.  And between that I kept trying to find things for Sawyer to do, and nothing held his attention for very long, so he kept moving around on the bench and I kept reminding him to sit down and talk softly and be reverent.  A little over halfway through sacrament meeting he found some kid scissors in my church bag and asked if he could use them.  Usually I would say no way, but today I thought "whatever it takes to keep you happy and still."  So I told him he could use them on ONE little piece of paper, and he had to sit RIGHT at my feet and stay still.  I figured the quiet it would buy me would be worth the mess I'd have to clean up after sacrament meeting was over.  Then bac...

Funny pics from the week

Pic 1- Sawyer said "Mom, take a picture of me doing this." Pic 2- Soleil decided to try tasting the flour and yeast mixture I was using to make pizza dough, despite my warnings not to. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way. Pic 3- Rick happened upon Soleil having her first experience putting on makeup...all by herself...well lipstick as makeup Pic 4- I don't have this picture but wish I would have taken one of the tiger stripes Soleil drew all over both arms yesterday with a black permanent marker, oh and on the side of her face and her shirt. You can see the remains of the table as evidence.

Before and After

Rick has been begging for this. What's a busy mom to do?

From the mouth of Sawyer

Sawyer is already making me laugh for the day. He wants to watch "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl" but he calls it "Shark Boy and Wot Hava Goyl?" Hahahahaha! Then he tells me that he can jump on the couch. I ask why. He says "because it's green and green means go!" Touché.
